The glossary — chapter 7 of 12

Performance, HTTP & Migrations, defined

Speed, status codes, and the moves that break sites — or don’t.

In practice

A store monitors the metric or response across product, category and checkout templates before prioritising fixes.

Why it matters

It affects how quickly and reliably users and crawlers can complete their tasks.

Core Web Vitals

Real-user metrics focused on loading, responsiveness and visual stability.

Ana says: A perfect score is cute. A fast, usable checkout pays invoices.

LCP

A metric measuring how quickly the largest visible content element loads.

INP

A metric measuring how responsive a page feels after user interactions.

CLS

A metric measuring unexpected movement of elements while a page loads.

Ana says: Nothing builds trust like the checkout button escaping from the customer.

TTFB

The time between requesting a page and receiving the first response byte.

HTTP Status Code

A server response number indicating the outcome of a request.

301 Redirect

A permanent redirect from an old URL to a new destination.

404 Not Found

A status showing that the requested resource cannot be found.

Ana says: Not every 404 is an emergency. A broken checkout link may deserve faster breathing.

Soft 404

A page that looks missing or useless but returns a successful status.

Site Migration

A major domain, platform, structure, protocol, design or URL change that can affect search performance.

Ana says: A migration is not “launch Friday and check Search Console on Monday”.
